FAQs on All-on-4® Dental Implants
Washington DC & Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Potomac

How do All-on-4® dental implants compare to traditional implants?

The All-on-4® dental implant technique utilizes only four implants per arch to support a full arch appliance, whereas traditional implants utilize anywhere from six to eight implants, or more, in each arch. Two of the implants in this procedure are also placed at a severe angle, which allows for increased contact by using the natural support of your bone. In addition, the All-on-4® procedure has been partially developed to avoid bone grafting for most patients, which is common in traditional implant procedures. Therefore, All-on-4® dental implants save time, money, and discomfort, but the patient does not have the benefit of saving bone in areas that could be grafted. We subscribe to a modified version of the therapy that includes bone grafting for bone preservation in areas that can benefit from that procedure.

Are All-on-4® implants successful?

All-on-4® dental implants are as successful as any other implant procedures. They are a very cost effective option for those looking to restore their smile. Implants restored with porcelain crowns over abutments for even greater aesthetics is also offered as an alternative. While they are more expensive, they provide additional benefits, which can be discussed at a consultation visit.

Will my teeth look natural?

Your teeth will absolutely appear and function as natural teeth to the extent that they will feel and function like your regular teeth as well.

Where will my All-on-4® implants be made?

Your implant restorations will be made by our in-house professional technician. We take pride in our custom appliances that can be quickly fabricated with premium results. All aspects of this procedure, from consultation to follow-up, are done under one roof.

Can I get All-on-4® implants on just one arch, or does it have to be both?

All-on-4® implants can be placed on just the upper or lower arch. As a part of a comprehensive evaluation, however Dr. Marlin will inform you as to how your whole mouth fares and will let you know if there are longevity issues with any of your teeth in your other arch, as well. Since we provide many alternative services, as well, you are being given an unbiased opinion during your consultation. In our office, you are well informed as to your present and anticipated future condition.

Who is the right candidate for All-on-4® dental implants?

The ideal candidate is someone who is currently wearing dentures, or who will need dentures in the near future, and who requires a large amount of tooth restoration (often on both arches). The overall health of the individual is also evaluated before advising this treatment, to reduce the chances of post-surgical complications.

How will I care for my new implants?

The All-on-4® appliance needs to be carefully developed, which starts with implant placement and extends to the design of the appliance to make hygiene easier to manage. The beauty of these All-on-4® dental implants is that they appear and function just like regular teeth. However, in addition to regular brushing and dental cleanings, you may need to take a little extra time with cleaning your implant “roots” in order to keep your replacement teeth in great condition.
